Members of the public are authorised to fish for urchins provided they adhere to certain regulations (check as they can vary from one region to the next). Regulations in the Bouches-du-Rhône Department:
Fishing for urchins is authorised from 1 November to 15 April (same regulations in force in the Departments of Var and Alpes Maritimes)
The minimum size is 5 cm not including the spines
Whether picking by hand or underwater fishing, the maximum harvest is four dozen urchins per person per day.
Fishing from a vessel: four dozen urchins per fisher per day with a maximum of 10 dozen urchins per boat per day (more than 2 people on board) (see order of 27 October 2008).
