The brown-marbled grouper and the corb are two iconic species of the Mediterranean and extremely sensitive to fishing pressure.
Their position at the top of the food chain means their presence is a sign of a healthy marine environment. This is why they are monitored and studied at certain sites.
Groupers and corbs are protected by specific measures to guarantee their return to our coasts. These regulations prohibit underwater and hook-and-line fishing in the French Mediterranean (see regulations on fishing of groupers and corbs).
For the past 15 years, the brown-marbled grouper has thrived along the entire Côte Bleue with an increasingly regular presence. The corb, however, is much rarer and can be seen mostly in the marine reserves.
