On 14, 15 and 16 June 2014, Carry-le-Rouet's Cultural Association (which manages the cinema at Espace Fernandel), in partnership with the local council, paid tribute to Fernandel, the town's citizen of honour.
Day one was reserved for year 5 student from schools in Carry-le-Rouet and the local area. The theatre was packed with 170 pupils who came to listen to French TV host Jean-Pierre Foucault talk about Fernandel and his huge talent. An entertaining and educational discussion followed by a screening of 'Ali Baba et les 40 Voleurs' starring Fernandel himself.
The town was host to many events (with the participation of the Carryennes Association) which brought to life a number of cult scenes from Fernandel's film through costumes, mime and more. The Caméra, the boat once owned by Fernandel, was moored in the marina opposite the actor's former residence, 'L’Oustau de la Mar', throughout the festivities.
The permanent Fernandel exhibition located in the cinema's entrance hall was also inaugurated. Open to all, the exhibition features unseen photos from his career, letters from Fernandel to local residents, some personal belongings and a TV broadcasting amateur films shot in Carry-le-Rouet.
This homage to Fernandel in Carry-le-Rouet, the village where he spent three to four months a year with his family, will remain etched in our memory forever and is a way for our younger residents to get to know this talented man and perpetuate his myth.
Exhibition open from Monday to Friday, 10 am to midday and 2 pm to 5 pm (also open during film screening times).
