The 'Côte Bleue Marine' Natura 2000 site is exclusively a marine area. It encompasses the entire marine environment along the Côte Bleue up to a depth of 100 m to 6 nautical miles out at sea, so covering about 19,000 hectares.
It has been designated a special area of conservation under the EU's council directive 92/43/EEC on natural habitats.
The Parc Marin de la Côte Bleue is the entity in charge of overseeing the Côte Bleue Marine Natura 2000 site. As such it coordinates the programme of actions outlined in the 'objectives document'.
The programme aims to protect marine habitats such as posidonia grass and coralligène concretions which are essential for maintaining biodiversity and promoting biological balance in the marine environment.
