Eunice Kathleen Waymon, better known by her stage name Nina Simone, was an American pianist, singer, composer and staunch civil rights activist in the United States.
She is mainly associated with the jazz, soul, R&B, gospel and pop music genres. Born in Tryon, North Carolina in 1933, she spent the last 30 years of her life in France and more specifically in Carry-le-Rouet, where she first arrived in 1970. She lived in the Jas Neuf district until her death on 21 April 2003. Her ashes were scattered in several African countries.
Today, her daughter, Lisa, an artist and singer, lives in the family home.
