The town covers 1,010 hectares and is located 32 km (20 miles) from Marseille, 40 km (25 miles) from Aix-en-Provence, 12 km (7.5 miles) from Marignane and the airport, 17 km (10.5 miles) from Martigues and 35 km (22 miles) from Aix-en-Provence TGV station.
As of January 2015, the population is 6,336 residents. The population density (number of inhabitants/km2) is 627.5. It was 233 in 1938.
The marina, nestled in a natural cover bordered by two rocky limestone cliffs, has 580 berths. It complies with European standards and has visitor mooring for 20 boats.
Climate
Carry-le-Rouet enjoys a warm and dry Mediterranean climate in summer, temperate and even cold in winter. Rainfall is higher in winter (about 60 days with storms). The Mistral wind blows over 100 days a year, with speeds of over 100 km/h, while the Tramontane is the most prevalent wind on the coast.
The town had 3,052 hours of sunshine in 2015 compared to the national average of 2,110 hours. This is the equivalent of 127 sunny days putting Carry-le-Rouet at 13th place in the ranking of France's sunniest towns.
In summer, the outdoor temperature is around 30-35 degrees and the water temperature hovers around 20-25 degrees.
